Care For Yourself First — Then You Can Care For Others

Plenty of distractions in this world want to grab your attention — like, for instance, this article. I’m only kidding! Yet, there’s a different reason for everyone longing for your time, effort, and energy.

Your energy is your highest form of value. With it being robbed by other ads, companies, and businesses 24/7 — you have none left to give to yourself. For then, ultimately, for your spirit to not have what it needs to open up and have the ability to express itself.

Your answer is to shut out what is not helpful for you, your soul, spirit, and energy. Instead, look towards the practices to help you propel and grow.

Here are some easy ways I’ve found that have helped me focus inwards, connect with myself and provide my soul with more energy to share my message with others.

1. Learn to see what your thoughts are saying to you.

The best way to cancel out the noise so you can create is to silence the chatter in your head. Disconnect, go on a walk, meditate, clean your home, something to help you transition into a low stimulation type environment.
Disconnecting from outside chatter helps you focus on what your heart wants to express. When you sit down and start to understand what your spirit wants through caring for your thoughts and desires, they begin to flow easily and more fluently.

2. Play with your inner child — make time to do what you love intentionally.

Take your time with this one. Have you watched a recent video or listened to a podcast that got your heart to feel something? That’s your inner child. It wants you to take action on what interests you. Although, as adults, we have obligations that will cloud that desire to try something new. Make your mark by starting slow.

Any habit will take time, so take 5 minutes to know we all have to do that thing your heart has given you thoughts about doing. You then can get a feel for how that activity impacts you and your spirit — naturally increase that time. That habit will begin to show its actual value for your self-expression.

3. Nourish yourself from the inside out — treat yourself like a holy temple.

David, what do you mean? Simply put, do what makes your body feel good physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Physical- Move every time you get the chance. Plenty of people work from home nowadays. Take that opportunity to do some mini stretch breaks, bodyweight workouts, burpees, anything to get wake your brain up. All it takes is 5 minutes. Take walks with your spouse, pet, or yourself. Clear your head a little.

Mental- Speaking of clearing your head, take some time to sit with yourself. Whether that be meditation, journaling, a warm shower, etc., your brain needs a break, so give it the same love you give your body.

Emotional- Most notably, your heart needs some connection to your brain. Do that by self-expression privately through a diary, vision board, or just having a relationship with certain foods, people, or locations that make you FEEL yourself.

4. Make your self-care a habit. How important is it to you?

Don’t give up on what makes you happier, more focused, and productive. That means that doing it a few times will help, but it takes constant crafting and fine-tuning of those routines EVERY DAY to make a difference. If it takes time to nail down, that only tells you how important it is to continue doing.

Incorporate these few tips, and I hope that finding your favorite ones spark your spirit again to pass that care onto others through your self-expression and work.
